Leading the Completion of This Is The Place Heritage State Park

This Is The Place Heritage State Park in Salt Lake City, Utah, holds historical significance as the site where Mormon pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847. To commemorate this centennial anniversary and Brigham Young’s famous declaration of “This is the place,” a major restoration project was initiated to revitalize the park and construct heritage buildings.

Taking Charge and Delivering Results
Upon assuming the role of Director at the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management, I immediately focused on expediting the completion of This Is The Place Heritage State Park project. The project was facing significant delays and required a more robust leadership approach from the division. Through collaborative efforts with all stakeholders, including the Division of Parks and Recreation, we successfully completed the project, ensuring it was ready for the Sesquicentennial celebration on July 24, 1997.
